You Bought a Home, Now You Need a Plan

You bought a home! You're doing the home-ownership dance! Have a glass of wine admidst all those unpacked boxes! Maybe you're here for the long haul; maybe it's short-term; maybe you're wise enough to shrug, enjoy the moment and let fate take care of itself.

Simple, affordable kitchen update. Cabinets painted; vinyl floors swapped to plank laminate; drop-in stainless steel sink replaced with an apron farmhouse sink; laminate countertops upgraded to solid surface. The before can be found here.

Regardless, here you are, with this huge new investment—of cash and emotions. You opted to invest in real estate rather than to continue to rent.

Fantastic! You are super smart.

Now. Let's make your investment grow, shall we? It's time for a plan, Stan.

You could (on the let-fate-take-care-of-itself theory) hope that the market will just continue to grow like gangbusters, so when it comes time to sell, your property will sell for more than what you paid initially. Or (because fate sometimes needs a push) you could increase the value of your home with some changes that you will enjoy now, and buyers someday will dig. We're talking changes that will sell your home fast, so that the home that is making you do a dance today doesn't linger on the market months after you move on to the next stage in life.

Paint your concrete basement floors and build in storage, tv & bar - and voila! You have a finished basement where the kids (and grownups) can hang out. This before can be found here.

This Indianapolis home needed two new bathrooms. The old ones were dated and weren't going to help sell the home for top dollar. SYI came in and selected classic, timeless materials that matched the style of the home and didn't break the bank. You can see the project here.

Take this project. This young couple had the foresight to create a plan. They knew they were in Bloomington only for grad school and would be moving on in a few short years. They put in $10k and listed the house for a good bit more than they paid for it, just a few years after purchase.

And in this project, the client wanted warmth and color - but also resale-ability just in case she decided to move a few years down the road. (So far the neutral crowd-pleasing finishes we helped her select are making her happy enough to stay put.)

You need a plan, too. Call SYI. We want you to have time to enjoy those beautiful upgrades before your next chapter.
